11-16 February 2007 |
|

Dr. Prema Jha,
Hon'ble VC delivering her address
during International Workshop on Molecular Systematics |
The
workshop was organized by the Plant Systematics
Research Centre (PSRC), Department of Botany,
Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur,
Bihar. A total of 30 participants registered for
the workshop covering 13 states of India from
Jammu to Kerala and Nepal. The workshop was
organized under the auspices of Indian
Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (IAAT) and
was partly sponsored by the International
Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT). |
|
Dr.
Rosabelle Samuel (University of Vienna, Austria)
presided over the opening ceremony and delivered
keynote address. Dr K.K. Mandal, Pro
Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the workshop. Dr
Rosabelle Samuel, Deepthi Yakandawala
(University of Peradeniya), Dr. Hashendra
Kathriarachchi (University of Colombo) and Dr
A.K. Misra (NEHU, Shillong) were the Resource
Persons. Dr. J.V.V. Dogra, Head of the Botany
Department welcomed the guests. Dr Arun K.

methods in DNA extraction |
The
workshop was intended to provide basic training
of molecular techniques to taxonomists in SAARC
countries. The workshop was interactive and
deliberations were very active and lively. The
lectures were followed by practical on DNA
extraction, amplification, sequencing and
phylogenetic analyses. |

The
valedictory function was presided over by Dr.
Prema Jha, Vice-Chancellor, Tilka Manjhi
Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur. She also
distributed certificates to the participants. In
her address Dr Jha emphasized the need for
molecular systematic studies in developing
countries and development of DNA banks of plants
of India. The participants and Resource Persons
shared their experiences. |
